Few Tips for New Computer Science and Information Technology Students

In 2014, I wrote an article titled, Few Tips for New Geoscience Students. I wrote it while I was a student as the University of Calgary enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program in Geology. While I was successful as a Geology student, different life and local economic events have led me to change career pathway from Petroleum field, which Geology is part of, to Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT) fields. I went back to school and graduated with a Diploma with Honors (4.0/4.0 GPA) in IT from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2022. Reflecting back on the article I published in 2014, I thought it is time for me to publish an article on being a student in CS or IT.

How to Disable Microsoft Telemetry in Windows 11, 10 & Server 2019

This article also applies to Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019.

Microsoft collects data from their users through a program called telemetry system. They collect data on Windows Operating System, Microsoft programs and third-party programs. It also collects data on some user behaviour. They use this information to improve products and help diagnose issues as well as to recommend apps and features to the end user. Microsoft is not hiding anything from their end users but it requires the users to take action on their part to change limit or block telemetry system once the initial setup process is done.

Disabling or limiting telemetry on your system should not have any adverse impact on your user experience. There are multiple ways to update your preferences on the telemetry system after the initial setup. How to configure dual boot with Microsoft Windows

As Windows 11 is being rolled out, some advanced users may want to run both Windows 10 and Windows 11 on the same computer before completely moving on to Windows 11. In this tutorial, we will configure dual boot with Windows 10 and Windows 11 Operating Systems (OS). Here is how you can configure a dual boot system using a Personal Computer (PC) that already has been upgraded to Windows 11.

Introduction to pfSense

This will be an introduction or getting started guide to pfSense. The pfSense is an open-source firewall and router software application written based on Linux FreeBSD. It can be installed on a physical or a virtual machine (VM) environment. It has all the powerful features of Cisco, IBM of other proprietary firewall appliance developers. Additional features can be added by installing third-party packages (add-ons, plugins) to the pfSense. It is one of the most compressive industrial and enterprise grades open-source firewalls. You may install this application in your home environment for advanced firewall and routing configurations.

This guide will not try to repeat what has been already published by Netgate Docs. This guide will add additional information and value to official documentation. Please follow the external links for additional information.
